The Business Communication track of the Professional Writing Minor is more than just a class; it provides hands-on experience in the field of professional business writing. Through a wide range of multifaceted activities and assignments, students are engaged in detailed work with clients, while working diligently throughout the two-quarter seminar.
Unlike other minors or academic programs on campus, the Business Communication emphasis teaches students how to effectively communicate in a business environment. A wide variety of assignments prepare students for future careers, as they complete an extensive amount of business related projects with personalized guidance from the professor.
Our Unique Approach
Internships and service learning projects are integral teaching strategies for the Business Communication emphasis. Through service learning projects, students work alongside local non-profits to help them further enrich their services. Skills in the areas of letter, brochure, web, and grant proposal writing are utilized, and participants reap the benefits of “giving back” to organizations while perfecting their professional skills.
The Business Communication Emphasis presents students with valuable training through consistent exposure to results driven writing. Through real-world application, students expand their written, visual, oral, and collaborative skills. Acquiring knowledge beyond the classroom undoubtedly assists program graduates as they transition into the working world and become major contributors to the field of corporate communication.
