Overview
Kids In Nature (KIN) is a nonprofit organization located on the UC Santa Barbara
campus. KIN determines its outreach initiative based on low-performing
elementary schools and enlists small groups of fifth-grade students in an authentic
science project. Participants are responsible for tending a personal
plot of land on Sedgwick Reserve as they learn and choose which native plants
grow best at the elevation and climate. All steps in the process are
modeled after restoration ecologists when restoring natural areas.
