Dr. LeeAnne Kryder is an enthusiastic professor with great passion for teaching. She remains dedicated to her classes, and goes above and beyond her typical duties to ensure each student significantly grows while under her instruction. As the founder of the Business Communication track of the Professional Writing Minor, Dr. Kryder also spends a significant amount of time working alongside her students, guiding them through the many elements that professional business writing encompasses.
With a broad scope of educational certificates under her belt—including a PH.D in American Business History, an M.A. in American Studies, and a B.A. in English—as well as extensive work experience involving Fortune 500 Companies, Dr. Kryder has a very firm foundation for Professional Writing. A Certificate in Marketing, awarded by the UCSB Extension Program enhances her qualifications, and additional work experience—teaching engineering communication for ten years, managerial communication for fifteen years, and environmental communication for three years—adds to the depth of knowledge she brings to her students.
In her spare time, Dr. Kryder works as a writing consultant for various governmental and non-profit organizations, including the City of Santa Barbara's Planning department, Raytheon, and Cottage Health Systems. She has spent eleven years in the computer industry as a technical writer, systems analyst, and manager. Dr, Kryder also publishes in the areas of business and environmental communication, with publications including The Encyclopedia of Business Ethics and Society, Business Communication Quarterly, Technical Communication, and much more.
Dr. Kryder is a current member of UCSB's Sustainability Action Team, and national Committee Chair of Undergraduate Studies for the Association of Business Communication.
