Mary Ellen Guffey

Mary Ellen Guffey is Emerita professor of business from Los Angeles Pierce College. She has taught business communication and business English topics for over thirty years and is author of several best-selling, internationally-recognized textbooks in our field. One of those textbooks is used in many of the Writing 109EC classes here at UCSB, and was recognized by the Text and Academic Author’s Association as the top book in its field: Business Communication: Process & Product.

In 2006, Dr. Guffey began to award a $250 prize to the best written document produced in the business communication emphasis (she also awards a prize for the best student writing in the marketing and public relations course, Writing 110MK). The name of our annual award is “The Guffey Excellence in Business Communication Award.”
